GRASS/GRASP Solving Word Problems Method/Strategy

Help students plan how to solve word problems with this 5-step method!

Using the GRASS/GRASP Method, students will:

• Determine what is important information given in word problems
• Identify the questions they need to solve
• Choose an appropriate action (+ - x ÷) to solve word problems
• Solve and check their answers
• Write a concluding statement or paraphrase to answer the question

What’s included?

• There are 20 content pages in total. 
• If you want to use the GRASS acronym, print out the first set of posters, example, and template. 
• If you want to use the GRASP acronym, print out the second set of posters, example, and template.

For each set, there is:

• A poster overview of what GRASS/GRASP stands for. 
• An informational poster for each letter of the GRASS/GRASP method that can be printed and put up in the classroom. 
• A poster with an example of how to use the GRASS/GRASP method.
• A blank template for students to use while learning the GRASS/GRASP method to solve word problems. 
• Half pages of the GRASS/GRASP example and template should you wish to save paper.
