This lesson on Islamic objects in art covers the Pyxis of Al-Mughira, Folio from a Qur'an, Basin (Baptistére de St. Louis), and the Ardabil Carpet. Students will read and annotate articles before completing a fun crack-the-code activity where students will answer multiple-choice questions to receive the secret code. Alternatively, students can read the articles and complete a Cornell notes style reading guide. If you are running short on time in your curriculum, you can easily assign this as a break homework assignment to complete independently. Both versions of this lesson also work as an excellent sub-lesson plan.
