Activity – Investigating Ötzi – Who was Ötzi, and what happened to him?
For the activity, there are two different resources and three different activity options:
Resource #1 – Bullet points summarizing different theories and evidence (604 words)
Resource #2 – Reading of different theories and evidence (848 words)
Each resource is organized into two sections:
- Part A: Who was Ötzi?
- Part B: What happened to Ötzi?
Activity Option 1: Investigating Ötzi - Question Sheets
Students answer various comprehension and critical thinking questions on the different theories and evidence surrounding the mystery of Ötzi
Activity Option 2: Investigating Ötzi - Box Chart
On the graphic organizer, students are asked to…
- Summarize each theory
- Describe/explain the evidence for that theory
- Complete the critical thinking tasks for Part A and Part B
Activity Option 3: Investigating Ötzi - Form a Theory
After examining the resources, students are asked to form their own theory of who Ötzi was and what happened to him. Students are encouraged to combine information and evidence from the various theories and use multiple pieces of evidence to create their own.
Examples/Keys are provided for each activity option. Please note that many of the questions and tasks are opinion based, and there are many potential responses.
