Students Report the News, News You Can Use Research and Presentation

Students should be aware of what is happening in the world, and generating classroom content and discussions. In this news you can use assignment, students research a significant story in the United States headlines, and relate it to government, and present a 4-5 slide presentation. This is a ten-point assignment and the instructions make this a no-prep handout perfect for a day of substitute plans, or extra time report in class. Great for extra credit as well! I love doing these in my Social Studies classes.

In this activity, students will get involved with understanding more about local government and what is happening in their city. There are questions for finding out when city councils meet, what happens in the state of the city addresses, how to summarize city council agenda meeting minutes, and gets students thinking about how many things are happening at the level of their local government.
