Description

The end of the Revolutionary War did not create the United States; rather, it created 13 independent, sovereign states loosely affiliated under the Articles of Confederation. It took a series of economic, foreign policy and domestic crises to convince the country’s political elite to subordinate the independence of the states to a newly created, stronger national government. Their efforts would lead to the creation of the United States Constitution, an imperfect yet hardy and adaptive model of government that has continued to guide our republic today.

This text covers the creation of the Constitution and its theoretical underpinnings. Highly relevant to the most recent Presidential election, a detailed yet easy to follow explanation of the Electoral College is included.

This text is from my textbook “We Take Nothing by Conquest” and is part of a complete and comprehensive unit on the creation and ratification of the Constitution and Bill of Rights, as well as an extensive examination of our government’s system of checks and balances and how the Bill of Rights is applicable in today’s world. That complete unit includes 38 pages of text, inquiry based study guides, PowerPoints, activities, games, assessments and projects designed to accompany the text, along with a Teacher’s Guide for using all of the materials, and is also available in my store.
