America during the Progressive Movement. This 7 page Document Based packet allows students to answer the question "How did the Progressives address: Government inefficiency, suffrage for all, social problems (child labor, poor working conditions, alcohol problems) and Big Business corruption?" using primary source documents, articles and photographs that they have analyzed.
Documents (excerpts) included: Principals of Scientific Management, NAWSA letter, source on Keating Owen Act, National Child Labor Committee Poster, Factory Inspector report from 1896, Temperance Movement article from 1854/ political cartoons on the Temperance Movement and the Sherman Anti-Trust Act 1890.
This activity allows students to practice their critical thinking as they analyze primary sources in order to answer guiding questions and complete the packet with a conclusion writing activity that requires students to synthesize their overall understanding of the documents. Answer Key Included.
