Description
Students are guided through reading a few chapters of the Scarlet Letter in order to become familiar with romantic literary elements and style. Formative assessment focuses on these elements in the novel. Students are then split up into groups or alone, depending on skill, and are assigned a chapter according to skill. Students then rewrite the entire chapter in a modern style. Students round-table to share each chapter and the final assessment requires a synthesis of all elements of the novel. The modern movie Easy A analytical and comparative materials are also included. All materials to guide students through activities and learning via powerpoint as well as handouts and readings are included in both editable and PDF formats. This unit should take a few weeks of class time, depending on pacing. Units come in a zip file that will need to be extracted after download. All computers come with extraction programs.
