Description

This fun and challenging Civil War activity has twelve randomly ordered American Civil War Event Cards that students cut out and then tape in order on the provided organizer. Then, students do a simple drawing of each Civil War event under the event card. This Civil War activity is differentiated and has a built-in activity for early finishers.

Why This Product?

Students can memorize historical dates but still miss how one event impacted another. Figuring out the order of these Civil War event cards helps students see the internal "whys" of major historical events.

How This Product Works

Working in groups or alone, students cut out twelve randomly ordered “Civil War Event Cards”. Each card contains an important part of the War such as the the attack on Fort Sumter or the Battle of Gettysburg.

Students put the cards in order and tape them onto the provided graphic organizer. To help memorization and learning, students are asked to tape only at the top of the card and draw a simple drawing of the event or a summary phrase underneath.

Each Sequencer has twelve events, the number that research indicates balances depth and rigor for the widest range of students.

Differentiation

For differentiation, card sets are available with and without dates and there is a challenging and thought-provoking extension on the graphic organizer for early finishers. Don’t be surprised if your students try to finish the organizer early to leave time for the challenge question!

Reference Page

Some teachers may prefer to have the sequence as a reference page and not to do the activity. A reference page with the events in order is included free of charge.
