Description
It took eight years of bitter fighting for Americans to win their independence from England. Most U.S. history courses concentrate on the causes that led Americans to seek independence, and then move to the end of the conflict and the struggles of the new nation. But for the generation that lived during the eight years of this bitter conflict the war was immediate and represented the defining moments of their lives. This lesson is designed especially for teachers who do not wish to neglect the military history of this deeply significant period.
Students will learn the basic events of the war. They will appreciate the challenges both the British and the Americans had in prosecuting the war. And they will understand why the Americans were able to win the war and achieve independence from England.
