Different Types of Maps
The main goal of this lesson is for students to identify, analyze, and make connections between different types of maps
 
Although not necessary, having computers or Ipads available for students will allow them better view each map in full color. If this is not possible, the maps can still be projected onto a screen. A Powerpoint with each map is provided for this

  • Information Cards on Different Types of Maps (740 words total, 120-150 words for each map)
  • Full Page Maps (5 in Total) Political, Physical, Weather/Climate, Resource and Population
 
Activity Option 1:
Students use the Information Cards on Different Types of Maps and answer the question sets that go with each type of map
 
Activity Option 2:
Students examine 3 maps and complete the Map Analysis Activity. In this they select two regions of the U.S. to focus on, using the maps to compare both regions to one another.
 
Activity Option 3:
Students examine the 5 maps that are provided and complete the Map Analysis Worksheet where they analyze and make connections between the 5 maps.
 
Examples/Keys provided for each activity option!
 
This lesson has been adapted for digital learning.  Students can use apps such as LuminPDF or Dochub to complete and submit the fillable PDF files.
