Create your own "20,000 pieces of me T-shirt".
Inspired by the Quadraturians, an advanced alien civilization that understands the universe in 20,000 pieces, this activity combines creativity with math, perfect for Back to School season.
The Quadraturians discovered a magical way to truly understand someone’s essence by breaking down their identity into 20,000 parts.
- Each student will receive a pre-drawn T-shirt divided into various sections (polygons).
- Their task is to assign different aspects to these sections that tell something about them, such as their favorite foods, books, movies, dreams or goals, character traits, hobbies, etc.
- Assign more pieces to the aspects that hold greater significance in your life.
- Then color them, and optionally calculate their areas, and express them as percentages of the whole T-shirt.
You can use the completed activities to make a mural, door decoration, or bulletin board display.
There are differentiated versions to choose from:
- A blank T-shirt template divided into 20 sections.
- A T-shirt template with the area of each section given in square units. Students can check if their total is 20,000.
- A T-shirt template with values for areas of 19 out of 20 sections given. Students must calculate the area of the missing part by adding 3 and 4 digit numbers and subtracting from 20,000.
- A T-shirt template to calculate the area of each section in square units.
- A T-shirt template to calculate the area of each section of the T-shirt as a percentage of the whole T-shirt. *percentage results have 2 decimal places
- A T-shirt template to calculate the area of each section in square units, and express them as percentages of the whole T-shirt.
- A T-shirt template with signed names of shapes.
