This worksheet and PowerPoint Presentation are to supplement the podcast History Detective. Case 8: The Plague in Australia, Roses are Black, the episode looks at the time the Black Plague came to Australia in the 1900s and the ways that people reacted. It makes comparisons to the COVID19 pandemic and discusses continuity and change. The lesson focus is on the analysis of historical interpretation via song and the concept of motive- particularly when it comes to historic photography.
Students will build vocabulary, analyse sources, engage with the historical concepts of context, perspective, motive, implicit and explicit evidence, audience and context. Can be taught over 2 lessons.
