This Christian children's story walks us through Caterpilly's resistant process of becoming a butterfly, with the guidance of the matriarch, Grandma Flutter. Grandma Flutter instills in Caterpilly a reliance on God and how we all have a purpose, even when we must change.

My story isn't nonfiction. I use cocoon in this, though the vast majority of butterflies come from a chrysalis, not a cocoon like moths do. Eric Carle explains more here about how poetry won over science in his choice, and I figure my reasons were similar when I wrote this.
