Description
In this 5 page resource, students are given a five page secondary text that details the evolution women's rights in the United States.
Specific names and events and legislation are thoughtfully explained. Instead of giving a series of questions over the information, students are asked to research and complete a text-to-text comparison using period / genre music that relates to the text.
After viewing an example students are asked to cite / connect / explain the relevance of societal conditioning with textual information. In short, they are given a time period and music genre in which they research and select a popular culture song that depicts something specifically mentioned in the text.
They then complete a short writing analysis piece that connects the text with the song lyrics.
Students say this is one of their favorite lessons.
