Description
These resources go with this History For Humans Video covering important leaders, generals, and battles of the Civil War. This is part 1 of a two-part Civil War battles and leaders series and part of a larger bundle on the Civil War- so check out both if you enjoy this one! :)
As students watch the video they complete an interactive notesheet with fill-in-the-blanks, critical thinking questions, a warm-up, a thinking map, and a summary at the end to answer the exploration question. The video and notesheet covers the first two years of the Civil War including the battles of Bull Run, Shiloh, and Antietam as well as the Emancipation Proclamation. It also teaches the important leaders and generals like President Lincoln, General Stonewall Jackson, McClellan, Grant, and Robert E. Lee. And there are answer keys for everything!
The video helps visual learners with on-screen text of the main ideas, powerful images, and it reviews the important concepts to ensure comprehension and still fun and engaging for students from 4-8 grade!
After the video and notes, students complete a map activity analyzing two maps of the battle of Shiloh. The questions are scaffolded to support diverse learners.
Please check out "Great Leaders and Battles of the Civil War, part 2" that covers Gettysburg, Vicksburg, Sherman's March to the Sea, and General Lee's surrender at Appomattox Court House and teaches the significance and legacy of the Civil War on the country.
