Description
Imagine being that teacher…the one whose kids just ‘get’ counting to 5! Learning to say the numbers, count objects and recognize numerals to five is one of the first steps to developing early numeracy skills.
This Counting Dinosaurs Clip Card Activity can be used to give your kids a solid base for their emerging number sense. The bright, interesting pictures keep young kids engaged and build visual discrimination skills at the same time. This activity aids in developing one-to-one correspondence – each object can be counted. This is also an important skill for early literacy learning, the concept that each word needs to say something. How many times have you watched your kids point and say words or numbers randomly, without making a connection between the object and the count? One-to-one correspondence means they touch one object and make one count, or touch one printed word for each spoken one. It’s a critical skill!
This Counting Dinosaurs Clip Cards can be used for centers, small group instruction or 1:1 work with a teacher or assistant. The activity includes numerals and pictures from one to five – there are 6 cards per sheet. Print it out, laminate it for durability and enjoy. I have used small wooden pegs or bright colourful plastic pegs to clip onto the cards, or you could use counters to place on the correct answer instead.
