Description
In teaching children about the Stations of the Cross at Easter, we have put together a bank of resources to support teachers in getting the most out of the opportunity.
Included in this resource, and in the order we used them:
- Set of 15 posters (in both black and white and color to support printing budgets). Each poster identifies one stage in the Stations of the Cross which Jesus undertook during the Crucifixion. These are great to use year after year, and we suggest that once printed, they are laminated to preserve them for future teaching years. The color used is Purple to match the Church color during the Easter celebration.
- "I have... Who has..?" We have devised a 30 card question set which uses the Stations of the Cross on one side of the card, and on the other, the number of the Station. Of course, each of the cards are mixed up, so the children need to play together in order to sort the sequence. Playing is easy. Each child in the class gets at least one card. Select a child to start the game. They read the Station action out to the rest of the class. Once read, the other children look to see if they have the correct number of station to match the action. If they do, they call out the station number, and then read the next Station action on their card. The game continues until all stations have been completed. Of course, with two of everything, the game can loop, twist and turn and take some time to navigate to a conclusion. Once played, the children can reverse the questioning, starting with a number rather than the action. Again, they play until all of the Stations have been identified.
- Link the Station to the Number Worksheet. This will allow children to show what they have learnt and understood by making connecting lines between the station number and the action. An answer key is provided for teachers to be able to assess quickly and effectively whether their children have been accurate in their learning.
All of these resources really supported our children learning the sequence of the Stations, and with combining class displays, games and assessment activity, we could easily see that they had learnt the journey undertaken by Jesus to His crucifixion.
Full instructions for each resource are also included within the product upon download.
