Description
Are you looking for a fun way to review students for your big EOC (end of course) exam - like STAAR in Texas? This is a fun review game that covers people, events, documents, treaties, wars, vocabulary - you name it - in Modern American History. This game covers content from 1877 to the Modern Day!
The early American History version of this game is a best seller in my store!
- All you need to play is small, cheap envelopes! Simply print out this product, (laminate if possible), cut up the cards and place them in the envelopes for each group.
- In groups of 4 or 5, a student will pull out a card from their envelope and start describing it to their group. (They give "GOOD" clues, not clues that will "give it away.") When their group members guess correctly, the student puts the term on their desk and continues to describe as many more terms as they can before the teacher says "PASS." That student then hands the envelope to the next group member and it's their turn to start describing. This is a RACE between groups. The group that describes all of their cards first wins.
This product includes:
- teacher instructions with pictures
- student instruction page (to be projected to a whole class, or printed to have at each group)
- 336 cards - divided into Eras (Foundations of America, Gilded Age and Progressive Era, Imperialism & WWI, Roaring 20s/Great Depression & New Deal, WWII, Early Cold War, Civil Rights, Vietnam & 60s, Modern American)
- -lots of blank cards if you choose to add your own.
Please note: this product is designed in units. Some concepts or people overlap. For example, Franklin D. Roosevelt is in both the Great Depression/New Deal and WWII units. LBJ is in both the Vietnam and Civil Rights unit etc. When concepts or people belong in more than one unit, I have added them to both. There are a handful of cards that are duplicates for this reason.
Why do students love it?
- They are working in groups
- It's a race, so they get to compete against other groups
- They get to "show what they know" and it's awesome!
Why do teachers love it?
- Once prepped, you can use it year after year
- Kids are collaborating and making connections
- The conversations you will overhear as a teacher will warm your heart ***Cue the "they really DID pay attention to my lesson " warm fuzzies.***
- Highly engaging!
- You review a TON of history with this game
Teacher suggestions:
- Store the envelopes in a larger baggie or manila envelope. Label it with the name of the era. This is a GREAT activity to use when you have a few minutes left in class on a random day!
- Have responsible kids help you cut these out. It does take a bit of prep. I always asked kids from Student Council or National Honor Society to help me prep this activity.
This is a fun way to review a ton of U.S. History in a competitive, active way!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Couple of Teachers says, "This resource was perfect for STAAR review. The terms covered all the content for the year and allowed my students to make connections. I could immediately tell what content they remembered and what needed extra review. Fun for the kids, VERY helpful for me!! "
