Fun with Flags - History of United States Flags PowerPoint Lesson VERY VISUAL

This 49 slide PowerPoint presentation shows 40 flags the United States has used during her lifetime. Also included are some of the flags that have been making a comeback recently like the "Gadsden Flag" also known as the "Don't Tread on Me" flag. Your students will see how the flags have changed over the course of our 200+ year history. This presentation is extremely visual. You will also learn some new things about our country's history.

I have my students journal about which flag is their favorite. What differences do they notice between the flags?

Each slide contains a flag and it's name if it had one as well as the number of stars on the flag and when the flag was in use in the United States.

Also pictured are flags that are similar to the United States flags and possible changes to the flag if the country added another state. This can also open up discussions about U.S. territories and the pros and cons of becoming a state (ex: Puerto Rico).

I have also added the abbreviations of the states/stars that were added to each flag.
