Description
Students will read and analyze excerpts from President Washington's First Inaugural Address by answering 20 questions and completing an extension task. Time permitting, students can read his Second Inaugural Address and answer 5 more questions. This would be great for a sub and the answers are included where appropriate!
Sample questions include:
--What does he acknowledge at the end of the first paragraph?
--Explain what Washington promises in the second half of the third paragraph.
--Would Washington involve himself in those discussions (per the answer to question 9), why or why not?
--Explain what is meant by, “pecuniary compensation.”
--Does this address represent a turning point in American history, why or why not?
--Which of the two addresses do you think should be considered the bar that other presidents should meet and why? If neither of them, explain your thought process.
