Description

The history of US postage stamps is a fascinating topic! Wait until kids find out you once had to lick a stamp before placing it on an envelope!

It's easy to tie the history of US postage stamps to your study of Benjamin Franklin or even the Revolutionary War, as the first postal systems were being developed by the Second Continental Congress, and Ben Franklin was our first postmaster General! But the holiday this resource was designed for is July 1, US postage stamp day.

In this resource you can peek into the history of US postage rates while you are learning the history of stamps. Discover when stamps were first used and create your very own mailbox craft!

In this resource you will receive:

Link to a Google Slide presentation so you can present the History of Stamps to your learners yourself.

Link to the video in which Mrs. Crabtree of Homeschool Holiday presents the History of Stamps - using the same google presentation - but without stopping to show the additional you tube videos linked in the slide presentation.

Handout of slide presentation for learners to follow along, or for independent learners to complete on their own.

Fact sheet: Important dates in USPS history

Mail Box Shape Book - Color your own and Full Color options

Design your own stamps - square, horizontal and vertical as well as a set of three. The set of 3 includes general instructions to make 3 themed stamps, then it also has instructions to make 3 stamps about the learners life.

The last section is a "pretend play" stamps and postcard set where learners can use the stamps (full color or color your own) to send postcards. The postcards are designed by the learner too!

I hope using Homeschool Holiday products brings Celebration into your life!
