Description
Welcome! This two-page activity features two tables to help reinforce the physiology and the cells of the immune system. The theme of the first table is the three lines of defense. Students start with a list containing immune system responses, barriers, cells, and functional proteins. Then, they will classify the immunity as being specific (SI) or non-specific (NSI). Next, students will indicate whether the immune response is a first, second, or third line of defense. Their list of immune responses includes: B-cells, natural killer cells, chemical barrier, reflexes, inflammation, antibodies, T-cells, protective proteins (interferons), mechanical barriers, fever, phagocytes, and protective proteins (complement).
Students will match the function of the immune cell with the correct cell in the second table by writing in the function next to the appropriate cell. Students will write the functions for the following cells: eosinophil, killer T-cell, mast cell, macrophage, suppressor T-cell, neutrophil, plasma cell, memory T-cell, basophil, helper T-cell, monocyte, and memory B-cell. I provided a function word bank.
This document will become editable upon conversion to Microsoft Word using an Adobe Acrobat Reader DC program. It includes a complete key with the answers in red font.
