Description
The product is a Google form and doc linked to two interactive galleries on William Shakespeare and realism in Northern European Renaissance art.
The Northern Renaissance style might be described as the very singular result of a blending of Late Gothic art, contemporary ideas about observation, and Reformation ideology. The European mind in the North at this time saw their Christian God in every aspect of the world, and so the world was depicted with an exacting naturalism that verged on the spiritual.
While Shakespeare’s plays did reflect his northern European Renaissance era, his works address universal themes and have endured for centuries.
Students can select the images to learn more about Shakespeare’s plays, his time period, and his lasting impact. Then on the second interactive gallery, students can select each image to learn more about realism in Northern European Renaissance art. Students will analyze the galleries and complete the 9 reading comprehension questions and one grid on the form. Students will answer the 3 short answer questions on the doc. This activity has worked very well in pairs. This is an enrichment activity.
Students will learn about:
- Jan and Hubert Van Eyck
- Peter Paul Rubens
- Jean Fouquet
- Stanislaw Samostrzelnik
- Albrecht Durer
- William Shakespeare
- Globe Theater
- Hamlet
- Romeo and Juliet
- Shakespeare's plays
