Latitude and Longitude Riddles Activity

The main goal of this activity is to have students solve riddles about world cities and map out their coordinates

Digital devices and the use of the internet are needed for this activity. Students will need devices to search for the different cities and find their latitude/longitude coordinates

There are two different options for this activity:

Activity Option 1 – 10 Riddles
Activity Option 2 – 15 Riddles

For the activity, students can use their prior knowledge and the internet to figure out which city each riddle is talking about. This should be quick if students google a few keywords from the riddle.

Once students have the city figured out, they will need to figure out the coordinates of this city. https://gps-coordinates.org/ can be used to find the coordinates, or use GOOGLE for assistance

Students can write the name of the city and the coordinates on the Riddles Worksheet and record the city’s name on the map provided.

To make things easier, students can round the coordinates. The key provided has them rounded to the nearest whole degree.

Full keys are provided for both activity options

This lesson has been adapted for digital learning. Students can use apps such as LuminPDF or Dochub to complete and submit the fillable PDF files.
