Description
This webquest will teach students about the Nazi Lebensborn program during World War 2 (WW2, WWII). They will visit 3 websites and answer 17 questions of varying degrees of difficulty. The answers are included where appropriate.
Sample questions include:
--Explain why there was an emphasis on giving birth in secret, both for the mother and the child.
--Why might there have been Lebensborn homes in 9 different countries? What conclusion(s) can you draw about the location of the homes (where they were located versus where they were not located).
--Why does Gisela Heidenreich refer to Lebensborn as “the opposite of the Holocaust?”
--Summarize the section titled “The Courage to Speak Out” in 4 sentences or less. Why does it take courage to speak of choices made by other individuals?
--In what ways could this program be considered a success? In what ways could it be considered a failure? Can you see something like this happening in society again? Explain your answer.
--As Holocaust and Lebensborn survivors age and die, how will the way we see/understand/remember each program be affected?
