Description

Maurya & Gupta Empires Notebook - Google Drive - Print & Digital

This notebook activity has a variety of engaging activities for students to learn more about the Maurya & Gupta Empires! This is an excellent addition to your unit on Ancient India or a lesson on the Maurya & Gupta Empires! This resource also works great as a backup Sub lesson plan.

This resource comes as a Google Drive resource. If you would like to print the resource material, select the print version of this resource, go to "File," "Download," and "PDF" to save the resource as a PDF and print!

WHAT'S INCLUDED IN THIS PURCHASE? ⇣⇣⇣⇣⇣

  • Maurya Empire Reading & Questions
  • Maurya Empire Mini-WebQuest
  • Gupta Empire Reading & Questions
  • Caves at Ajanta Short Video & Questions
  • Maurya & Gupta Empires Sort
  • Put It All Together Writing Activity
  • Note: the writing activity will ask students to compare and contrast the Maurya & Gupta empires. I would review what compare and contrast mean before assigning them the writing portion. If you have never taught how to compare and contrast in writing, you could use this lesson as a foundation to teach the skill. However, you will need to scaffold your writing skills to achieve this.
  • Writing Rubric
  • Teacher Answer Key (Not included in preview)

There are many ways you can use this resource:

  • Use this after a lesson on the Maurya & Gupta Empires to reinforce learning
  • Use this resource as your primary lesson on the Maurya & Gupta Empires
  • Complete this together as a class (recommended)
  • Assign as individual work
  • Assign as partner/group work

When I use notebook activities in my class, I like to go through the readings, videos, and activities together as a class. Why?

  • Make sure everyone is staying on track ✓
  • Get the entire class to participate in the lesson ✓
  • For the readings, I have random students read a paragraph out loud at a time. I personally use popsicle sticks with the names of students written on them (elementary, I know - but even my high school students appreciate it because they never feel like I am picking on them specifically).
  • Allows students to answer the questions and immediately review them as a class to self-check for progress learning ✓
  • Less grading for me ✓

I usually give a completion grade for the portion we do together as a class.

The writing portion at the end I have students complete independently either at the end of class or as homework. This is the only part that I grade (the rubric I included makes grading easy for you!).

If you want an even more in-depth look at this product, please check out the Preview. I have included pictures of most pages you will get with this purchase.
