Description

Several proverbs predict upcoming weather events and seasons from nature’s cues. For example, in the northern states, folk pay attention to the adage, "When it has snowed three times on a robin's back, spring is here to stay." Another familiar axiom is, “rain before seven (a.m.), quit by eleven (a.m.).” While there are exceptions to the rule, the old-time forecast sayings that often appear in the Farmer’s Almanac are accurate and useful tools everyday people use to predict weather fronts, patterns, and seasons. Students taking environmental science, field ecology, or any nature 101 courses will benefit the most from learning during this lesson.

This listing features two fill-in-the-blank activities that cover a combined 27 adages. This two-page lesson has a word bank at the bottom of each page. It includes a separate full-page key with the answers in bold, red font. The PDF file will become editable upon conversion to Microsoft Word using an Adobe Acrobat DC Reader.
