Pi Day Math Activity Make Your Pi Round Project Middle School Decimal Operations

Your students will love this Pi Day Tasty Math Challenge. Use this Pi Day Math Activity to have your students incorporate critical thinking, practice decimal operations, and optionally calculate the circumference of circles.

Students must feed their Pi symbol (π) with delicious treats from the Pi Menu to make its belly as round as possible. They have a budget to spend on food. They must spend it wisely because some products increase Pi’s belly circumference more than others.

In this Math Challenge, students will practice addition, multiplication, and subtraction of positive numbers including decimals.

*Additional option: Select level 2 to practice finding the circumference given the radius and finding the radius given the circumference of a circle.

2 levels of differentiation:

Level 1: Students do not need to know the formula for the circumference of a circle.

Level 2: Students need to know the formula to find the circumference of a circle.
