Students will learn about the people and events from JFK's presidency with this PowerPoint or gallery walk with comprehension tasks. There are 31 slides of information and 28 questions/tasks for students to respond to. The topics covered include the historical significance of Kennedy's election, Civil Rights, equal pay for women, the Space Race, foreign affairs, his assassination, and more!
A teacher information page and the answers are included where appropriate so this would work for a sub! The presentation part is included as a PDF and PowerPoint for your convenience.
Sample questions/tasks include:
--Identify the main goal of the Peace Corps.
--Compare and contrast FDR’s New Deal with JFK’s New Frontier. Which was immediately more successful and why?
--Explain the meaning of, “coalition of conscience” and how it connects to the Civil Rights movement.
--What might President Lincoln would have said to the activists standing beneath him during the March on Washington? Balance historical accuracy with creativity.
--Who was Thurgood Marshall and what was his historical significance with relation to JFK’s presidency?
--List 3 reasons the Equal Pay Act would have been so difficult to enforce in 1963. Compare and contrast those reasons with enforcing equal pay in the workplace today.
--Pick a word to summarize JFK’s choices/involvement in Vietnam and explain why you chose that word.
