Description

Students will compare and contrast excerpts from Abraham Lincoln's First Inaugural Address and Second Inaugural Address speech by answering 14 questions and completing a 15 item compare and contrast chart. The chart addresses aspects of both speeches that the questions do not cover. There are a mix of academic and opinion questions and a concluding creative task. The answers are included where appropriate and this would be great for a sub!

Sample questions include:
--What does Lincoln reassure the American people of, and why, as he began his first inaugural address?
--Summarize the the concern of focus in the third paragraph.
--Citing evidence from the text, does Lincoln believe secession is constitutional? Explain why.
--Identify and explain the biggest obstacle facing Americans in March, 1861.
--How does Lincoln set his second address apart from his first?
--Rewrite the final paragraph in your own words to demonstrate understanding in modern terminology.
