Description

Students will complete this election results map to track voting results during any election for the electoral college votes and popular vote (each map has additional instructions for students). They will also answer 7 questions--5 before the votes are finalized and 2 based on the results of the election.

A TedEd video link (under 6 minutes) is provided if students need or want clarification on the electoral vs popular vote. It also touches on swing states.

Sample questions include:
--What does it mean when a state is described as a “swing” state” or a “battleground” state? Which states are those identified as such for this election?
--Which amendment ensures the presidential and vice presidential candidates are on the same ballot? Why was that amendment seen as necessary?
--Inferring from prior knowledge and the TedEd video, in what way(s) is the Electoral College a compromise? How does it reflect, or parallel, other compromises from America’s early history?
