Description

Students will answer 5 questions prior to election day, as voting results come in they will complete a results map for both the electoral college and popular vote (each with instructions and an additional question), and then they will answer 2 more questions based on the election results. A TedEd video link (under 6 minutes) is provided if students need or want clarification on the electoral vs popular vote. The video also touches on swing states. The questions are a mix of academic review and opinion.

Sample questions include:
--What does it mean when a state is described as a “swing” state” or a “battleground” state? Which states are those identified as such for this election?
--Which amendment ensures the presidential and vice presidential candidates are on the same ballot? Why was that amendment seen as necessary?
--Inferring from prior knowledge and the TedEd video, in what way(s) is the Electoral College a compromise? How does it reflect, or parallel, other compromises from America’s early history?
