Primary & Secondary Sources – Instructions:
 
The main goal of this lesson is for students to learn the difference between primary and secondary sources, along with their uses in studying history

Activity Options:
Activity Option 1: P&S sources – Assessment Worksheets
  • There are two different worksheets, each with 12 Primary/Secondary sources. On both worksheets, students must identify which is a primary and secondary source.
Activity Option 2: P&S sources – What Can We Learn From Them?
  • 6 Sources are provided in total. Students determine if the source is primary or secondary, assess what information the source might have and what they could learn from it
Activity Option 3: Which Source is Best?
  • Students are given six different situations. They first select a source that they think would be best, determine if it is primary or secondary, and then explain why they picked it over the other source
 
Examples/Keys are provided for each activity option!
 
This lesson has been adapted for digital learning.  Students can use apps such as LuminPDF or Dochub to complete and submit the fillable PDF files.
