Description

Students will read and analyze two accounts of whether Prohibition was a success or failure during the Roaring 20s by answering 36 questions, analyzing 5 images, and completing an extension task. This would be great for a sub and the answers are included where appropriate!

Sample questions include:
--Why does Cooper put such an emphasis on the role of the Constitution as related to the enforcement of prohibition?
--Identify what he believes will be the tipping point for prohibition’s effectiveness/degree of success.
--Why does Cooper refer to World War 1 in making his argument?
--Describe how propaganda has come into play.
--In what way is the government shaking people’s faith?
--Write a contextually appropriate synonym, or definition, for “preponderance.”
--To what does Stayton credit, or attribute, the perceived prosperity?
--What is Cooper’s strongest argument for that prohibition has worked and why? What is his weakest argument and why?
--What is Stayton’s strongest argument that prohibition has failed and why? What is his weakest argument and why?
--If you could re-title each of these texts, what would you choose and why?
