Description
Students will watch and analyze 2 videos on the attempts to settle Roanoke, people involved, and different ideas about what happened to Roanoke by answering 31 questions. They will then answer 9 overarching and discussion questions. One video is 5 minutes long and the other is 9 minutes.
The answers are included where appropriate.
Sample questions include:
--What was Sir Walter Raleigh’s role in establishing Roanoke?
--What could be an example of the archaeological evidence found on Hatteras to prove that theory?
--Why don’t we have a definitive answer as to their fate?
--The narrator says there was an “inauspicious” start to the new colony. What does that mean and why did they think so?
--Compare and contrast the significance of Wanchese and Manteo on Roanoke and the British settlers.
--Why was John White worried upon getting closer to shore?
--Why might the settlers have assimilated with the Croatans?
--Summarize two pieces of information from the animated video that was not in the other one.
--Did the videos more parallel or contradict each other and why?
