Description
Students are tasked with designing a rollercoaster that has certain elements; drop tower, various hills, loop, and helix. This lab will test the students understanding of conservation of energy. This lab is perfect for assessing your students' knowledge of potential and kinetic energy. The students love this lab and it really helps reinforce the idea of conservation of energy and they must use engineering/math to design a coaster that does not fail.
Concepts Reinforced:
- Mechanical Energy
- Gravitational Potential Energy
- Kinetic Energy
- Conservation of Energy
- Energy Transfer
- Engineering
- Designing the track
- Building the track
- Problem-solving
- etc..
Materials Needed:
- Hotwheels track
- Marble/Car
- Tape
- Books/Chairs (Prop up Track)
Alt Materials:
- Pipe Insulation
- Cardboard/ Paper
- PASCO Roller coaster system
