Rosie the Riveter Webquest

Students will learn more about Rosie the Riveter (both as a wartime motivator and the real life inspiration behind the image) during WW2 (World War 2, WWII), and other versions of the iconic propaganda poster by completing this 27 questions and 2 creative tasks webquest. Students will visit 4 websites to complete this activity. One website has students watch interviews from women who worked in wartime factories. The answers are included and this would work for a sub if your students have access to the internet in class.

Sample questions include:
--What is the purpose of Rosie showing her muscles and rolling up her sleeve?
--Which industry saw the greatest increase in hiring women? Why do you think that was the case?
--Which woman seems to be the most credible source of the poster’s inspiration and why?
--Does this article corroborate your answer to number 11, why or why not?
--Compare and contrast the images of women working in wartime factories/situations. What do most have in common and what stands out as more unique? How do they exemplify “Rosie the Riveter?”
--Is Rosie the Riveter still relevant today? Why or why not?
