Description

The Fall of Rome – Readings and Activities:

The objective of this lesson is to have students describe the reasons for the decline and eventual fall of the Roman Empire:

There are 4 different Activity Options based around two readings
  • Reading 1 -The Decline of the Roman Military (680 words)
  • Reading 2 -The Fall of Rome – A Society in Decline (700 words)
  • Activity Option 1 - Using one, or both readings, students complete a graphic organizer asking them to describe how various factors contributed to the Fall of the Roman Empire
  • Activity Option 2 Using Reading 1, students complete a Causes and Effect worksheet where they describe the causes and effects of different factors that eventually led to the Fall of Rome. (A differentiated version of this activity is also included where the worksheet is partially completed. This makes the process quicker and gives the students less that they need to do.)
  • Activity Option 3 - Using Reading 2 - Students complete a Causes and Effect worksheet where they describe the causes and effects of different factors that eventually led to the Fall of Rome. (A differentiated version of this activity is also included where the worksheet is partially completed. This makes the process quicker and gives the students less that they need to do.)
  • Activity Option 4 - Students complete the worksheet where they determine if the cause was Economic, Political, Military, or Social. There are two variations of this worksheet, one that requires explanation and one that does not.
