Description
Students will visit 3 websites and answer 25 questions to learn about the Nuremberg Trials from the end of World War 2 (WW2). Four questions are connected to an embedded 4 minute video from an American soldier who was a guard during the Trials. There are also up to 3 extension tasks included for students to complete if time allows. The answers are included where appropriate and if your students have access to technology this would work for a sub! The websites are from the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and the National World War 2 Museum.
Sample questions include:
--Identify the crimes the Germans were charged with in Nuremberg. Inferring from the historical context and the crimes themselves, what did the charges have in common?
--Why, or how, did some Nazi leaders evade trial and conviction?
--What purpose might have been served by cremating those executed rather than burying them?
--Explain the significance of the use of photographs and videos from Allied liberation efforts.
--Why was it so important that this wasn’t a, “show trial?”
--Explain the significance of Jackson separating the German people from the Nazi regime.
