The One and Only Ivan: Escape Room

This Escape Room is ready to go with very little preparation by the teacher - just photocopy and go. Students will complete four stages to finish the Escape Room.

Stage 1- Students will complete a Syllacrostic in which they combine syllables to create words as answers to clues. When the correct words are filled in, the first letters reading down will reveal a mystery answer that is related to the novel The One and Only Ivan.

Stage 2- Each team will receive a snote which is a design on a piece of paper. Hidden in the snote are some mystery words. At first, the words are difficult to see. However, if the students hold the paper flat, at eye level or a little below, and rotate it to look from different angles, then words will appear. Students use the words they find to solve Stage 2 of the Escape Room.

Stage 3- Students receive two sheets of tickets for events around the Exit 8 Big Top Mall and Arcade. The events span several years. The challenge in this stage is to put the tickets in order from the oldest to the most recent. Since the tickets overlap to obscure some of the important information on them, students need to think critically to place the tickets where they belong.

Stage 4- After putting the tickets from Stage 3 in order, students go back to find the Section on each ticket which is marked with a letter of the alphabet. They use this information to spell out a final mystery word from The One and Only Ivan.
