The main objective of this lesson is for students to describe the causes, strategies used, and results of the Punic Wars.

There are 4 different combinations/options for the Activity.

Activity Option 1 – Students use the Reading: The Punic Wars: Rome vs. Carthage (700 words) and complete and worksheet with 9 questions on it.

Activity Option 2 - Students use the Reading: The Punic Wars: Rome vs. Carthage (700 words) and complete the Graphic Organizer. On this graphic organizer students are asked to describe: Causes, Strategies, Advantages/Disadvantages for each side, and Results of the 3 Punic Wars. Note that the main focus of the reading is on the second Punic war, so this section will have more content than the others.

Activity Option 3 – Students answer analysis questions to a DBQ. There are 9 Documents in total with images, primary, secondary sources, and maps. The instructor can divide these documents up among the class as they see fit.

Activity Option 4: The 9 Document DBQ also works very well with the Graphic Organizer from option 2. Instead of answering the questions, students can complete parts of this organizer using the documents too.
