Description
Students will analyze 16 documents (5 are images), answer 16 historical context questions, complete a sorting chart, and write a DBQ essay to review the War of 1812. There are 10 essay prompts for students to pick from but one allows for the class or teacher to make their own. The answers are included where appropriate and the initial analysis part would be great for a sub! ***Some of the sourcing is a bit generalized so that students have to place it in the historical context/event themselves.***
Sample questions include:
--Why did Gallatin prefer war to an embargo? Which types of Americans would have agreed with him and why?
--In what way, and for what reason, does Webster invoke the Constitution?
--Which other document(s) is Document 5 most connected to and why? Identify its specific point of view.
--Provide an academic term associated with Document 8 and explain the role it had in the War of 1812.
--Does Document 13 represent a turning point in the war, why or why not?
--Identify the event most related to Document 15 and its significance to the War of 1812.
