Description
This bundle will help your students get the most out of Peter Brown's The Wild Robot. It includes The Wild Robot Digital and Printable Novel Study; Escape with the Wild Robot Printable Escape Room; and The Wild Robot Jeopardy Game.
The novel study gives students the chance to think about the story and express themselves by doing more than recalling factual details. They will get plenty of practice putting their thoughts into writing since there are no multiple choice questions. They will think about characters, motivations, and plot development. They will also have numerous opportunities to express opinions and rate the book at the end.
The digital version is completely paperless, since students type answers directly into the digital notebook. It includes some links (a video about how geese migrate and an inside look at how Peter Brown brought the book to life) as well as a few opportunities for students to search for photos on line. If you prefer an interactive paper notebook, a black and white printable version is also included. Both versions include a detailed answer key. For open-ended questions, various possible answers are offered.
It can be used by students as they independently read The Wild Robot at home or at school, or it can be used in the classroom as a guided reading experience for a literature group, partners, or the entire class. There is also an instruction sheet to make assigning this product in Google Classroom easy, which also includes a direct link to the Google Slides product.
This product includes:
•A link to the Google Slides which can be easily shared with students
•Printable pages that can be stapled together and used as interactive notebooks
•A detailed answer key for both versions
•Instructions
•Suggestions for use
•Post-reading follow up activities
The printable escape room will help you extend students’ enjoyment after reading or listening to The Wild Robot by Peter Brown. It’s a great way to pump up student engagement, encourage teamwork, and practice following written directions. By solving six puzzles related to The Wild Robot, they will work together to come up with a code that will let them escape from the island with Roz. They will think hard and have a blast doing it!
In this escape room, the scenario is: After accidentally falling off a cruise ship and swimming to the island, they see Roz about to take off in the airship. They try to get on board but the door is locked. The students’ mission is to solve 6 challenges and use those "secret words" to come up with a 4-digit code that will allow them get on board the airship with Roz and get back to civilization. As the timer counts down (suggested time is 30 minutes), participants will work with a partner or small group to solve 6 different kinds of puzzles in the allotted time.
The only preparation needed on your part is to copy the 6 puzzles and distribute them to student. Some teachers like to have students check each answer with them before progressing, but an optional Google Form is included so students can self-check as they solve each puzzle. Answers to each “lock” are typed into a Google Form, which tells them immediately if their answer is correct so they can move on to the next challenge. You may want to have a 4-digit combination lock available for students (NOT included) when they try their final code, but it is not necessary. There is a printable page included where you can write the code for students to check when they finish.
This PDF includes:
•6 puzzle cards that can be copied in color or black & white
•Student instructions and explanation of “secret mission”
•Student recording sheet for answers
•Detailed instructions & suggestions for use
•Answer key for all 6 challenges
•4 congratulatory signs for “victory photos” after their success
•Optional Google Form for students to check their answers
The Jeopardy PowerPoint is a fun way to review what students remember after reading or listening to The Wild Robot by Peter Brown. It includes a six-category game board with 30 clues and answers, optional theme music on each slide, and a final Jeopardy question. I project it on the big screen and let everyone participate using their lap boards, but it can also be played in teams. Teachers have also used this as a remote learning activity. It's easy to jump between categories and each slide that has already been used shows up in red. Because it is a PowerPoint, it is editable if you want to tweak some questions. It's a great way to celebrate the end of a book!
Included:
•A 35-slide editable PowerPoint presentation
•6 categories related to the book The Wild Robot.
•5 clues for each category and corresponding answers
•A Final Jeopardy question
•Optional theme music on each slide
