Description

How have Voting Rights/ Suffrage expanded throughout U.S. History to include more groups of Americans?

In this activity, your students will create an Illustrated Timeline POSTER that allows them to creatively exhibit what they have learned about the expansion of voting rights from the birth of America to Modern Times.

 Specifically, your students will:

1) Watch a 10 minute, public access video on the History of Voting and who had the right to vote and when in the U.S. As they watch they complete a warm-up activity. (Included)

2) Read a short summary of the History of Voting Rights, in timeline form (link included) OR they could use their class textbook/ internet to identify the events.

3) Glue together their Timeline POSTER (template provided) and identify and label the events related to voting rights/suffrage for each group highlighted on the timeline (Original voters, women, African Americans, Native Americans etc.)

4) Either HAND-DRAW or find pictures on the internet (and print out) that illustrate the information in their timeline.

All directions, handouts and a GRADING Rubric are included! (You will need to supply colored pencils, scissors and glue)

**Includes a full Traditional version and a GOOGLE version of select activities for your use!
