This is an entire lesson on the topic of Westward Expansion/Manifest Destiny and the effect on the Native Americans. It includes a Power-point/Google Presentation AND an entire Document Based Activity with handouts!
In this lesson your students will:
1) Take notes from an 8 slide power-point (included) that gives them background info on the Native American Indians (Who were they, where did they live, what were their tribes/cultures like etc.)
2) Students will examine multiple primary source excerpts/photographs to understand how Westward Expansion affected the Indian tribes.
3) Students will write down evidence on a graphic organizer that helps them answer the following essential question:
"How did interactions with American's during Westward Expansion in the 19th-21st century positively or negatively affect the lives of the Native American Indians? How can the effect of these interactions still be witnessed today?"
4) Exit Card: After completing the Document Based Activity, students will use what they learned to complete a sensory figure of a Native American!
