Variables, Density and Metric System Review Puzzles NGSS Skills

A set of four puzzles that have students practice critical thinking skills and apply concepts from NGSS SEP Planning Investigations. Topics include metric system unit conversion, density problems and identifying variables from a research question or short description of an experiment. These worksheets work well for independent practice, as stations, as homework, or as part of your emergency plans for substitute teachers or other last minute schedule changes.

• Pumpkin Spice Latte Hidden Message
• Review of skills for NGSS SEP Planning and Carrying Out Investigations. Coffee themed puzzle. Students will use read a short description of an experiment and are asked to identify the variables (manipulated or responding) to solve the puzzle.
• Muffin Hidden Message
• Review of skills for NGSS SEP Planning and Carrying Out Investigations. Muffin themed puzzle. Students will use read a hypothesis and are asked to identify the variables (manipulated or responding) to solve the puzzle.
• Density Hidden Message
• Review of basic density calculations. Cat themed puzzle. Students will use density formula to solve the puzzle. Uses both mL and cubic cm for volume.
• Turkey Hidden Message
• Review of metric system common units and conversions. Turkey themed puzzle. Students will use background knowledge about metric units to practice converting them to solve the puzzle
