Winter Celebrations of Light

Create a 'travelling exhibition' with your class prior to the winter break with this quick research project. Students will see an excellent Youtube video presentation and learn about three European ancient sites dedicated to winter solstice customs and traditions. They'll then select a country that has a winter celebration involving the use of lights (candles, lanterns, etc.), create a visual representation and a summary that they will present to other students in the school. My students were welcomed in to other classrooms for a quick, informative break! Alternatively, it could make a great bulletin board display.
