In this 11 page packet, your students have everything they need to complete a Primary Source Jigsaw Activity about Mayan Life using excerpts from the recollections of Diego de Landa, a Spanish priest living among the Maya in 1562. Aspects of Mayan life addressed are: Land of the Maya, Agriculture, Fashion, Social Structure, Food, Entertainment, Religion and Mayan reaction to Spanish arrival. Your students will:
1) Work in groups (or individually) to read a 1 page (or all) primary source reading(s) about a particular aspect of Mayan life.
2) In their groups they will answer their assigned discussion questions and record their answers on a graphic organizer.
3) Move to different groups where 1 person from each Reading Group will be present to “teach” the rest of their group about their topic.
4) Complete an Exit Card Activity so that their learning can be individually assessed.
