Description
This postcard activity checks student comprehension as well as engages them with historical fiction writing. This assignment focuses on the perspectives of average people during WWI, both on the homefront and the warfronts. (I recommend using this activity after a discussion of the Eastern and Western Fronts, as well as homefront contributions). Students write a paragraph on their fictional "experiences", choosing a perspective of at home or at war.
Students can also engage their artistic side by portraying a scene from WWI on the front of the postcard. For those who have trouble with drawing projects, I purposely made the space on the front smaller, and they can always glue in a picture if they need.
