1st Day/Week of Art Drawing & Sculpture Project w Spanish & English Instructions

Its Back to School Time! Whether we are ready or not, its coming! Let me save you some planning time for the first week of school when students are being shuffled around from class to class. This first week of school drawing & sculpture project is great on the first day of school or anytime after that! I've used this lesson with Middle School Art and currently with my High School Art students! They all love it!

Part 1 of this 39 page PDF presentation & lesson is a set of simple, easy to follow instructions in Spanish and English. Students will be asked to draw a line, any line, any where. Next a shape, next a line through a shape and so on. They will eventually create a non objective drawing that will allow them to explore design elements and allow you to see where they are at artistically. This lesson always gives me a good idea what skills my students have to start the year off with. It also gets them drawing on the very first day or week of school.

My students always tell me that they loved this lesson because it gave them a project to do on the days when all they were doing was going over rules and syllabuses in their other classes.

Part 2 of this lesson is when students are asked to turn the most interesting elements of their drawing into a sculpture using cardboard, wood, paper, or whatever materials you have on hand.

Save yourself some of your summer vacation time and grab this instead of planning for back to school! Especially if you often have Spanish speaking students who are nervous the first week of school, this will help them participate right off the bat!
